Top 5 items for an Expecting Mama

Congrats! You are growing a little bundle of joy. Here are 5 items I couldn’t live without as a first time expecting mom.

1.Boppy

Prior to expecting, I dreamed of being wrapped in a cozy giant body pillow…you know the one I am talking about. So the first opportunity I got, I purchased one and HATED it! I felt sooooo claustrophobic! Although a queen size bed, husband, and a cat could be blamed since the pillow is like adding two extra people to the bed. Instead, someone gifted me this smaller Boppy pillow and I immediately feel in love! It can be wedged perfectly under the growing belly or between your legs. When I traveled, this pillow was the first item to go into my bag too!

2. What to Expect when You’re Expecting

This book is a staple for any expecting family, but especially for first time Mamas. Throughout the pregnancy, your body changes A LOT, this book helps to explain what to look for, what to ask your doctor about, etc.

3. Gift card to get a Pedicure

Once you are in the third trimester, you will no longer be able to see your feet! When I could no longer see my toes, I found it difficult to even clip my toe nails, so a trip to the nail salon was a must! Additionally, the nice massage chairs and a foot massage helped to relieve the added pressure to my feet.

4. Beauty Product Care Package

When I got pregnant I was worried about having dry skin during the winter with my growing belly! Starting at 8 weeks, I religiously used two products: Mama’s Gold Stretch Mark and Palmer’s Coco Butter. Every morning and night, I would rub Mama’s Gold Stretch Mark oil around my belly, chest, and thighs. I would then lather the coco butter on my entire body. While stretch marks tend to be hereditary, there are ways you can keep your body staying moisturized as places you didn’t even know could stretch become bigger!

5. Maternity Clothing gift card

When I dreamed about getting pregnant I would admire all the cute “bump” fashion on Pinterest. Little did I know there were only three local stores (Destination Maternity, Target & Macy’s) that sold maternity clothing I was able to try on in store! Being someone who loves to browse and touch the clothing, I frequented Destination Maternity on a bi-weekly basis! While there are plenty of online options (Nordstrom, Old Navy, Gap, H&M, and ASOS), sometimes an expecting Mama just wants to feel like they can shop again! While pregnant, I also found it difficult to justify spending money on clothing I would only wear for a few months. Gift cards are a great way to allow a new mama to splurge while being used for essentials.

Here are a few online retailers I learned to love…

Nordstrom

Old Navy

Gap

H&M

ASOS

Destination Maternity

BONUS!

Needing to add a little extra as a gift for an expecting mom?

If you are looking for a gift for an expecting mama, a children’s book is always a great addition to one of the items above.

I love you Stinky Face is one of my favorite books to read to El at night. It is about a mom telling her son how much she will love him no matter what.

For mom’s that have had difficulty getting pregnant, Wish is perfect. The first time I read this to El I was a blubbery mess! The story always makes me think of how patiently my husband and I waited for El’s arrival.

In the comments below tell me what items would be on your top 5 list!
